Lake Life

Building traditions is a beautiful thing. This year, we drove up to Christina Lake again to enjoy a week in the sunshine. This is the third time that I've been there, and it was just as picturesque as I remembered. As I began to construct yet another blog post of the lake in my mind, I realized that I wanted to do something a little bit different. I asked my guinea pigs, in other words dear friends, if I could photograph six portraits of six friends over six days. Reluctantly, and luckily, they said yes.

Our third year here brought new experiences and revived some old ones. For the first time, the "kids" cooked a few meals for the adults, went for ice cream (twice) "in town", and had a propane fire on the beach. We were much more relaxed than years past as the ladies spent many hours escaping into the worlds of upper class Asians of Singapore, a dystopian future, and the romance of Florin and Guilder. We also enjoyed many hours playing with Chevy as she followed us around everywhere we went.

One of the best moments of the trip was witnessing a lightning storm in the distance on our final night. Four of us stood on the little cabin deck to watch the sky light up. It is a simple moment that is now engrained in my memory.
